Although Matt Damon doesn’t look a day over kick-a**-action-star, Damon turns the big 4-1 today. But just like the heartthrob bad guy chasers before him, Damon won’t let his growing collection of birthdays slow him down. Matt Damon says his marriage to non-celebrity Luciana Barroso is the key to his ‘quiet life’

Matt Damon considers himself a “lucky devil” compared to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Matt is happily married to Luciana Bozán Barroso, and the couple raise four kids together; Isabella, five, two-year-old Gia, Stella, nine months, and Alexia, Luciana’s daughter from a previous relationship.

The Hollywood hunk is happy with his work/private life balance, and argues power couples such as Brad and Angelina face a much tougher ride. Matt met Argentine-born Luciana when she was working as a bartender, and cites her non-showbiz status as the reason they have more privacy. He also thinks his decision to shun living in Hollywood lends him greater space.

“Brad and Angie are like prisoners. When they go for a walk it is always a huge international sensation. I am lucky devil. I am doing work I love but I don’t need paramilitary troops who care for me the minute I’m leaving home,” he laughed to German TV station Tele 5.

“I am not as crazy as most of the other celebs. Probably because I married a woman who isn’t an actress. And New Yorkers are really cool they don’t go nuts when they see me. My kids don’t latch on to the whole celeb hustle and bustle.”

As a great advocate of privacy, Matt isn’t keen on social-networking sites where members give out details of their day-to-day life either. The heartthrob is bemused by the way youngsters post such risqué videos on sites such as Facebook, and thinks in the future people will become less inclined to do so.

“We haven’t quite realised what that media could do to us. And that’s why we make mistakes like sending naked pictures of ourselves. The next generation will be more careful and say, ‘Maybe we shouldn’t tape ourselves having sex. That could look strange,’” mused Matt.

Matt Damon seems like a pretty great guy, but he may be an even more awesome son.

“My family is so grateful for the care you’ve given us,” the Adjustment Bureau star said at a fundraiser last night for Massachusetts General Hospital’s Cancer Care Center, where his father, Kent, has been undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood.

“It’s deeply humbling to see how many people here are committing their lives to helping others,” Matt said. “We’ve lost some close personal friends to cancer in recent years, but I never thought it would happen to my dad, the marathon runner…It sucked.”

Happily, Kent Damon is currently in remission—and, apparently, a great mood.

“We try not to take this celebrity deal too seriously,” he joked, referring to his A-lister son. He told the crowd a story about opening up the paper to read about Matt’s Academy Award nominations for Good Will Hunting in 1997, and “there was a picture of Robert Duvall, Peter Fonda, and Dustin Hoffman—then there was a picture of my 27-year-old son. He didn’t belong there with all these seasoned actors!”

Getting serious, however, Kent also said that his Boston-bred boy was “all you could ever for ask for in a son. It’s been a wonderful ride being his dad.”

Cue tears.

Matt actually succeeded his pops onstage, wondering “How do you follow that? My dad’s biggest fear is public speaking, and I’m like, ‘You’ve got cancer man!’

“When people ask me, “What’s so great about Boston?’ I say, ‘Oh, the people, the sports teams—actually, I’d start with the sports teams—[and] the hospitals,” the actor continued, according to the Boston Herald.

“But if you had ever heard of Mass General, you were raised to believe it was the best hospital in the world. You were raised to believe that the Red Sox would break your heart and that MGH was the best hospital in the world.”

Matt Damon would “never sell” out a director.

The actor-and-screenwriter says once he has agreed to appear in a movie or has hired a filmmaker for the project he could never get rid of them, even if he didn’t think it was working out, because he’d already committed to the project.

He told Men’s Health magazine: “My movies being really good or watchable always depends on everybody being really good, not just me. I’m particularly sensitive about making sure we secure the best possible people in each role because I am not somebody who can overcome if we don’t.

“And then, for me, once I make that commitment, I never will sell the director out on that project. You cannot change horses midrace. Even if your horse is losing, you ride the horse as hard and as fast as you can. If there was a mistake made, it was made in your initial decision to work with that person.”

Matt – who is currently starring in thriller ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ alongside Emily Blunt – also revealed he and writing partner Ben Affleck never take offence when their ideas are criticised by the other person.

He said: “When one of us comes up with an absolutely f**king horrible idea, which happens all the time, the other person, without batting an eyelash, says ‘That’s a terrible idea.’ And neither of us has our feelings hurt, and we just kind of move on.”

He has pushed reusable water bottles, done many a PSA, and even robbed a casino… now, eco-celeb Matt Damon will be lending his voice to help save the planet, and the human race!

Damon will be narrating the new PBS documentary Plan B: Mobilizing to Save Civilization, the latest installment in the “Journey to Planet Earth” series. The 90-minute doc is based on the book by climate crusader Lester Brown, and discusses the very real impact of climate change, and what we all must do to prevent future catastrophes. Joining Lester Brown and Matt Damon in the documentary are Nobel Laureate Paul Krugman, Pulitzer Prize winner Thomas Friedman, former Governor and Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt, and others.

This sort of work is nothing new for Damon, who backs the eco-activist site Water.org, has worked with OneXOne, and was recently given a Critics’ Choice Award for his charitable work.

The documentary looks fascinating, and aims to provide “a glimpse into a new and emerging economy based upon renewable resources as well as strategies to avoid the growing threat of climate change.” Lester Brown seems to have some ambitious but realistic solutions, so let’s hope this plan goes into action.

The film will premiere on PBS on March 30th at 10pm Eastern.

While Matt Damon has taken the back seat to his “True Grit” co-stars Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld so far this awards season, the actor was acknowledged Friday night (January 14) by the Broadcast Film Critics Association during the 16th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards for his humanitarian efforts.

In a segment presented by Jimmy Kimmel and Emily Blunt, Damon was given the fourth annual Joel Siegel Award for Service to the Community. While Kimmel provided comic relief, joking that the Oscar winner is “the greatest guy in the world,” the actor received serious accolades for his charity, Water.org.

Blunt, who stars with Damon in the upcoming film “The Adjustment Bureau,” explained that the organization Damon co-founded with Gary White helps to “provide developing countries with safe drinking water and sanitation by partnering with local communities.”

As Blunt delivered the staggering statistics that less than 1 percent of the Earth’s water is drinkable and more than 1 billion people don’t have access to clean water, Kimmel continued to kid with Damon, telling him, “Sean Penn is actually in Haiti right now … carrying things!”

Kimmel, who gets the last laugh at Damon’s expense every night on his late-night show, then cried foul on Damon’s many awards, mocking, “You know how much water he wasted in that shower scene in ‘School Ties’? A lot!”

Damon, playing as good a sport as ever to Kimmel’s jabs, then took the stage to accept his award to a standing-ovation audience that included his “Good Will Hunting” collaborator Ben Affleck. After taking a shot back at Kimmel — “I literally have no idea why you’re here,” he quipped — Damon got serious about receiving what he described as “a wonderful honor.”

The actor acknowledged the work of late film critic Joel Siegel, who, as Damon told the crowd, “Believed that you should use celebrity to improve the lives of others and he lived that way. So, I’m really honored to get this in his name.”

Though plenty of the segment included joking around with Kimmel, Damon got very serious when he delivered the news that, “Every 15 seconds, a kid somewhere on planet Earth dies because they don’t have access to clean water and sanitation.”

Calling that information “disgusting and unacceptable and unnecessary,” he added, “These are issues we’ve known how to solve here for 100 years in our country. … Just imagine if we cured AIDS tomorrow and in 100 years people were still dying of it, 3 million of them a year. It’s just really ridiculous.”

Damon concluded his speech by thanking his partner, White, and informed viewers that by donating $25 on the Water.org website, they could give a child “clean water for life.” He then promised that they would change the fact that 1 billion people do not have clean water and offered to viewers, “Feel free to join us.”

Getting special recognition during the course of the evening, Matt Damon was toasted at the 16th annual Critics’ Choice Awards in Los Angeles, California on Friday (January 14).

With the always-swanky ceremony taking place at the Hollywood Palladium, the “Bourne Indentity” star was brought onstage by Emily Blunt and Jimmy Kimmel to receive the fourth annual Joel Siegel Award.

The honor was bestowed upon Damon, a renowned actor and philanthropist, as a way to pay homage to beloved Good Morning America film critic and BFCA member Joel Siegel, who lost his long struggle with cancer in June, 2007.

Other big winners at the Critics’ Choice Awards included “The Social Network” as Best Movie and Natalie Portman as Best Actress.

(CBS) Matt Damon and Quentin Tarantuno are being honored Friday night at the 16th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.

Actress Emily Blunt and talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel will present Damon with the fourth annual Joel Siegel Award, named for the “Good Morning America” film critic who died of cancer in 2007.

Quirky film director Tarantino will get the first-ever Critics’ Choice Music+Film Award, designed to honor filmmakers for extraordinary cinematography combined with brilliant use of source and soundtrack music. Actor Tim Roth will make the presentation.

Other presenters at the awards show will be Hank Azaria, Josh Brolin, Jesse Eisenberg, Jon Hamm, Ed Helms, Rob Huebel, Khloe, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore, Joan Rivers, Paul Scheer, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sarah Silverman, Kevin Spacey, Emma Stone and Sofia Vergara.

The Broadcast Film Critics Association announced today that Matt Damon will receive its Joel Siegel Award on Jan. 14 at the 16th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. Damon appeared in three high-profile films in 2010, including the Coen brothers’ current hit Western True Grit, as well as Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter and Paul Greengrass’ Green Zone. I specifically mention the directors because since Damon burst upon the scene with 1997′s Good Will Hunting, he’s shrewdly partnered up with an impressive string of accomplished directors for what his pal Ben Affleck has called “the world’s greatest apprenticeship”: Gus Van Sant, Steven Spielberg, Anthony Minghella, Robert Redford, Steven Soderbergh, Greengrass, Terry Gilliam, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Eastwood, and the Coens, just to name a few.

He keeps extremely good company, and at only 40, he’s crafted a brand for himself that never seems to disappoint his fans — even if it doesn’t always deliver at the box office. In a word, it’s “smart.” Damon’s films are intelligent and have integrity, and his very name attached to a project lends it a type of credibility that many bigger “movie stars” envy. When he does an action film, it’s Bourne. When he cameos on a TV show, it’s 30 Rock. When he signs on for a science-fiction movie, it’s with Neill Blomkamp and Jodie Foster.

Next up for Damon is Cameron Crowe’s We Bought a Zoo, and at some point, he will probably take all the lessons he’s culled from watching the masters that have directed him and follow Affleck behind the camera. It would be a waste if he didn’t. (Damon has expressed the desire to direct, and there have been reports that Damon might direct Affleck and himself in The Trade, a project about two wife-swapping New York Yankees pitchers from the 1970s.)

Can you think of any other actor who’s put together a more impressive and varied string of director collaborations? (Because I’m only coming up with Jack Nicholson in the 1970s.) And when Damon does finally direct a film, which director’s fingerprints will be most evident? My guess is his films will look and feel like a combination of Soderbergh and Van Sant.

Matt Damon is more content with life now than he was 10 years ago.

The 40-year-old actor — who has four-year-old Isabella, two-year-old Gia and three-month old Stella with wife Luciana, and is stepfather to her 11-year-old daughter Alexia from a previous marriage — didn’t mind reaching the milestone age recently because he has fulfilled his personal goals.

He said: “It’s a good birthday – because a lot of the bigger questions are answered.

“I’m married with kids, all the things I was worried about at 30 I don’t worry about any more.”

Though Matt is content with his personal life, he still has professional ambitions he wants to achieve – including working with his friend Ben Affleck again.

He told Empire magazine: “You don’t always get to work with the people that you want to. I mean, I haven’t worked with Ben in years and he’s my best friend.”

Matt and Ben shot to fame after co-writing and starring in ‘Good Will Hunting’ together in 1997.

The movie earned them the Oscar for Best Writing in 1998.

Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon will present the Cecil B. DeMille Award to Robert De Niro at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards, which will be held Jan. 16 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Ricky Gervais will host the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 8 PM ET. Also announced to present are “American Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez, “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson, Garrett Hedlund (“Friday Night Lights”) and “Gossip Girl” cast member Leighton Meester.

“30 Rock,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Big C,” “Glee,” “Modern Family” and “Nurse Jackie,” all shows starring stage folk, are among the television shows competing in the Best Television Series-Comedy or Musical category; while Broadway’s Alan Menken and Glenn Slater were nominated in the Best Original Song-Motion Picture category for “I See the Light,” from the animated film “Tangled.”

Matt Damon says that he is happy to have turned 40 because all of his ‘bigger questions’ have been answered.

The married father-of-three said that he was happy to reach the milestone because he has everything that he wants.

He told Empire magazine, ‘It’s a good birthday – because a lot of the bigger questions are answered.

‘I’m married with kids, all the things I was worried about at 30 I don’t worry about any more.’

The actor shot to fame alongside best friend Ben Affleck after they co-wrote Good Will Hunting in 1997, and he said he hopes to be able to team up with his buddy again sometime in the future.

‘You don’t always get to work with the people that you want to. I mean, I haven’t worked with Ben in years, and he’s my best friend,’ he added.

The Broadcast Film Critics Association announced today that at this year’s 16th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, Matt Damon will receive the Joel Siegel award. Get it, Damon!

The show will air live on Jan. 14th, and this is the 4th annual Siegel award to be given out. The award and its name comes from “Good Morning America” film critic and BFCA member Joel Siegel, who lost a battle with cancer in June, 2007.

According to the BFCA, their reasons for choosing Damon as a recipient are many, and not only include his astounding film career— this past year he appeared in the Coen Brothers’ True Grit, Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter, and Paul Greengrass’ Green Zone— but also his dedication to charitable work.

“Matt personifies the values celebrated by the Joel Siegel Award,” said BFCA President Joey Berlin after the announcement. “Among his many charitable endeavors, Matt’s work as co-founder of Water.org has inspired us to honor him… Matt is also a founder of Not On Our Watch, which focuses global attention and resources to stop and prevent mass atrocities. He helps fight AIDS and poverty as a supporter of the ONE Campaign. He is also an ambassador for ONEXONE, a non-profit foundation committed to supporting, preserving and improving the lives of children at home in the United States and around the world, and a spokesperson for Feeding America, this country’s largest hunger-relief organization.”

After providing the many examples of charity work that Damon has immersed himself in, Berlin added, “Clearly Matt understands, as Joel did, that the true value of celebrity is as an enhanced platform to do good works for others.”

Damon is a true eco-celeb, not only supporting causes that better humanity but the world at large, and we hope that this award will show just how much charitable work is appreciated!

The 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Ricky Gervais, air live Jan. 16 on NBC at 5 p.m. from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

“True Grit” co-star Matt Damon will receive the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s fourth annual Joel Siegel Award during this year’s Critics Choice Movie Awards this month, the association announced Wednesday.

The award is for Damon’s humanitarian and charitable efforts, including co-founding Water.org. The organization is committed to helping “draw attention to the world’s number one health problem, unsafe and inadequate water supplies, and to raise funds to help fight this immense problem — one community at a time,” according to its website.

Damon is also a founder — along with celebrity buddies George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle and others — of Not On Our Watch, to bring attention to genocide and other crises around the world; is spokesman for the Feeding America anti-hunger campaign; supports the One Campaign to end extreme poverty, particularly in Africa; and serves as an ambassador for the nonprofit foundation OneXOne, which works to improve the lives of children in this country and around the world.

“Matt personifies the values celebrated by the Joel Siegel Award,” BFCA President Joey Berlin said in a statement. “Clearly Matt understands, as Joel did, that the true value of celebrity is as an enhanced platform to do good works for others.”

Joel Siegel, longtime film critic for ABC’s “Good Morning America” and a BFCA member, died from complications of cancer in June 2007.

The Critics Choice Movie Awards will air Jan. 14 at 9 p.m. on VH1.

“I found out they’re making another when somebody saw it on the Internet,” the erstwhile franchise poster boy has confessed. “Nobody bothered to call me. I’m not in it, but even so, they’ll work Bourne into the title I guess. Universal just wants to call everything the Bourne something. So I guess they are trying to make another franchise and as they say, ‘It isn’t over until it’s over.’” Add Bourne Under a Bad Sign to the list of alternate titles, I suppose. [Parade via Vulture]

Actor Matt Damon reveals why he chose to not to attend the inauguration of President Barack Obama, even after he campaigned to put him in office.

”[My wife] Luciana [Barroso] and I decided we wanted to go,” Damon tells the Miami Herald. “But when I called my contacts from the campaign, they just started laughing: ‘We worked on the campaign for two and a half years, and we’re not going. Forget it.’”

“But then they called me back the next day and said, ‘Hey, we’ve got two tickets for you, in the bleachers, and you’ll actually be able to see Obama take the oath. Just $25,000 apiece.’”

It was then that Damon, husband and father of three daughters, said he decided to watch the inauguration from his couch in Miami Beach.

Damon currently has an ‘Untitled Jason Bourne Project’ in the works for a 2010 release.
